We all have a number of tools in our environments we have to work with: Service Now, Atlassian, Workday, Oracle, etc if we could match members of this forum by tool combination it would be very helpful to learn how we solved for challenges.
Documentation of most common assumptive allocation strategies. To deal with those data gaps we all have
I really like the idea of an inventory of members and tool sets. We are currently trying to sort through several tools currently and would find this very helpful. Great idea!
Our organization is currently in the midst of an IT Spend Project which has a purpose of identifying IT costs that are not readily available. We are a large healthcare organization that has a central IT which provides services to all of the organizations entities. Even though we are setup like this all costs are not centralized. Since we are the central IT organization all our cost were considered IT related and very easily identified. We believe we have 70% of the organizations IT costs being tracked and managed within our central IT company and have been doing this in a self-developed cost model since 2012. As the IT Spend project group works through the rest of the organizations companies we are learning quickly that everyone's definition of IT is very different. This difference has resulted in people making assumptions, categorizing costs incorrectly and extending our efforts.
Tom combat this we are currently defining our organizations definition of what is IT cost. This will also include our definitions for both Software and Hardware? Since we consider all software an IT cost our definition needed to add clarity to this all-encompassing term as well as provide guidance to the grey areas such as SaaS, Subscriptions, Data Subscriptions, Data Processing and Memberships. One of the largest grey areas we currently tackling is defining the difference between traditional IT and BioMed. Our organization has managed these separately but the question of with is IT cost has this being looked at. Regardless if it is IT or not we still need to provide clarity to the grey areas.
What I hope to gain from this group is an understanding on how other organizations have defined their IT Costs. I am interested in learning how these organizations tackled software in their cost models and were able to relate them to the Services and Application tier of the taxonomy. I would also like to take back to my organization some early learnings and best practices on defining what is IT vs. BioMed.
